The Dive Sequence

This was inspired by Robert O’Toole (RobertOToolePhotography.com) who was a co-leader on my recent Homer AK. trip.  He showed us a shot from Bosque with sandhill cranes taking off from the crane pools.  I Always thought it was a pretty cool image so when I saw this sequence from Homer I thought I’d try  it.  Once the eagles spot a fish in the water, they often start the dive then quickly turn completely over onto their backs.  It’s visually a very spectacular move, fun to watch.

This is a composite of five images put together in photoshop showing how they turn over in a dive.  I especially like the first pose, cocked and ready to go!
