I’m working through my images from my last trip and wanted to share this particular one.
What’s so special about this one? It’s big! This one image came from combining 21 shots. In essence, it is a 7 shot panorama, which is to say 7 vertical shots taken on a tripod to get the full width of the image. Since it was taken just as the sun was setting, it was getting pretty dark in the foreground and of course still pretty bright where the sun has just set below the horizon. In order to get the full “dynamic range” within the scene, I took three exposures at each of the seven positions as I rotated the camera through the whole scene. A dark one to expose for the bright areas, a light one for the darks and one in the mid tones. These three images were then combined using an HDR program (High Dynamic Range) into one image. These seven images were then stitched together in Photoshop to end up with the one image you see here. So 21 into 1! This image will print out to a size 16″ by 59″!
Please click on the image to see it larger – although not as large as on the wall!!

Stunning image and so much better in living color. I wish you could capture the compelling dynamics on your web site. Great work of art Mark.
