Playing around with some different techniques this evening and it prompted me to ask the question, is it photography? Ok, it was taken with a camera but it’s very abstract, some might say impressionistic. Broke most of the “rules” with these.
So, what is it?
Early evening light, these are the tall grasses growing just outside our back door. This particular image was shot at 200 mm at a quarter of a second while moving the camera vertically from bottom to top. But that was just the beginning since I went sorta nuts in processing it. Adding a fair amount of contrast, saturation adding some filter effects, it just changes everything.
What I especially like about this one is the progression from dark at the bottom to light at the top. If you click on the image and look closely at the bottom you get a good impression of the blades of the grasses interweaving with each other.
Now the seed heads are way more prominent with the sun reflecting off of them. Still that detail in the lower part of the frame with a nice contrast between dark and the very dark.
If I had to choose my favorite, it would be the middle image.
Just some fun stuff. Now to print a few of these and see how they stand up as artwork!
