As I said in my first post about Barnegat, just about all the birds we saw were firsts for me. So staying in that vain, here are three more.
A pair of Common Eiders. As always (mostly) in the bird world, the male is the one most dressed up, looking quite formal here, while the female is dressed in a plain brown frock. These are arctic birds, just visiting for the winter.
Brant, a small goose that is almost exclusively coastal, and contrary to what I just said about the male and female birds, not much difference between the two here.
Male Black Scoter. If you go back a couple of posts you’ll see the female that just wouldn’t get off that rock. The males are blessed with a nose like Jimmy Durante.
