Moon and the Aurora

Pretty spectacular full moon last night.  The only problem was the full moon.  Huh??

This was taken right outside our lodge, not a whole lot of interesting foreground but I do like the lone tower in the middle.  Pretty bright moon too.

Not the best but pretty good for our first look at the aurora.  Kinda bright though ….. oh, right full moon!  That’s what I meant about the moon being a problem, too much extraneous light.

Pretty exciting though.  Last night the “aurora scale” was a 2, but at least it’s clear and we’ve had the opportunity to have a look.  What we can hope for is as the days go on, we still have clear skies and a bit more electromagnetic activity.

The moon shot was actually from two nights ago and the aurora shots from last night.  Cold and windy standing out there too!!

One other note, the brown haze right above the horizon is a result of the recent volcanic eruption in the north eastern part of Iceland.

With or without the moon your shots portray a spectacular place to visit. I just saw the shots from yesterday and I can’t even begin to fathom being in such a place! Keep the photos coming!
