Feeding is a big part of life at Nickerson Beach, and it goes on all the time. You could sit and watch for hours and if the adults weren’t sitting on the nest, they were off bringing food back to the little ones. And with all the activity going on, tons of little ones, how do you get noticed and not go hungry? Beg for it!
A young tern chick, stamping his foot with his beak open – I want food!!
Louder!!
Even the older ones, maybe 5 or 6 weeks are looking for a hand out.
And when they’re finally heard – lunch!
Even the young oyster catchers get into the begging act. Feed me!
