Avalanche Lake

Yesterday we hiked up to Avalanche Lake on the west side of Glacier.  The Going to the Sun Road is still closed because of snow and this was as far as we could go.  The hike up to the lake was a rolling 2.5 mile path along the McDonald Creek and Avalanche Creek.  Powerful water in a forest of cedar trees, simply stunning!

Avalanche Lake is fed from the Sperry Glacier.  In the photo you can see the three water falls feeding the lake from above.

The three surrounding mountains create a bowl with the lake nestled in between. Makes for a beautiful morning in a spectacular setting!

I love the exposure on the waterfall. Smoothing it out makes the turbulent seem tranquil. Beautiful.
