Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island in Maine has many miles of carriage roads running through the forests. There are 16 bridges within the park and the first built is the cobblestone bridge you see here. It was built in 1917, spanning Jordan Stream. No other bridge in the park has this natural boulder facing, making the first bridge unique in it’s construction. This image is from a trip we made to Acadia back in 2009. One of the goals I had was to photograph all 16 bridges. It took most of three and a half days, but enjoyed every rain soaked minute!
