Newcomers

As I said in my first post about Barnegat, just about all the birds we saw were firsts for me.  So staying in that vain, here are three more.

A pair of Common Eiders.  As always (mostly) in the bird world, the male is the one most dressed up, looking quite formal here, while the female is dressed in a plain brown frock.  These are arctic birds, just visiting for the winter.

Brant, a small goose that is almost exclusively coastal, and contrary to what I just said about the male and female birds, not much difference between the two here.

Male Black Scoter.  If you go back a couple of posts you’ll see the female that just wouldn’t get off that rock.  The males are blessed with a nose like Jimmy Durante.

I like the Eiders the most, but all of the images are really good!
