After the “white day” we had last week, everybody is looking for a little bit of spring. This red-bellied woodpecker, out today with a bunch of friends, warming themselves in the little sun we had. The red-bellied woodpecker is a regular around here. As a matter of fact we have a bunch that live in the woods nearby, making their way to the feeders often. They make sort of a clucking sound that’s as easy to identify as their undulating flight. This one happens to be a female. She has a grey crown of her head while the male is all red from the nape of the neck all the way over the top of the head. We’ll see some of her friends from today as the week goes by, so stay tuned.
