Chicago River

Spending the weekend in Chicago, trying my hand at some urban photography, something a little different for me. Not only the cityscape settings, but some long exposure photography as well.  I’ll get to a little more of that in some later posts.  For now a little exercise I like to do, comparing the color image with a B&W conversion.  So far, a lot of what I’ve been doing takes on a look I really love when converted to B&W.  Maybe it’s a throw back to my early days working in B&W in the darkroom.  So, anyway, here are two images looking east down the Chicago river from earlier tonight.

I do like both, the warm lights and early evening blue in the sky in the color image, but to me the B&W is very striking.  When I think of downtown Chicago, this is what I imagine.

How about you?

I love both, but the color makes the city appear more inviting for me. If a city could be more inviting to me. 🙂 I like your composition in this image.
